- One of New Zealand’s top travel destinations is Queenstown. The city sits on Lake Wakatipu . . .
- . . . in the shadow of mountains called the Remarkables.
- Queenstown’s population is around 12,500 but in the summer and winter, tourists can outnumber residents 3:1.
- Queenstown hosts 2 million visitors a year! With schools out, we were here at a very busy time.
- The city reminds me of a Colorado resort town. There is a lot of good shopping,
- many great places to eat . . .
- and LOTS of traffic. Great place to visit but not where we chose to stay.
- Instead we based ourselves 15 minutes away in historic Arrowtown
- Arrow River
- Nick and Maddie had many places to run.
- Dorothy Brown’s old fashioned theatre was a fun night spot.
- One day, we drove to Glenorchy, a small town 45 km north of Queenstown.
- The drive was incredible.
- Beach at Glenorchy
- The Queenstown area is known as the Adventure Capital of New Zealand. Bungy jumping was invented here and any extreme sport you can imagine can be experienced here.
- This ravine is home to the Shotover jet boat. One of their boats crashed while we were in town.
- Skydiving is another popular activity and Maddie decided to go for it!
- Before.
- During.
- After. Great job!
- All too soon, Nick and Maddie had to head back to LA . . .
- . . . and our next visitor arrived!!
- Queenstown.
- Arrowtown. And the next chapter begins . . .
